Colour Vision: 33CCFF

in Features

The following block is a test base for a new feature idea. I’d like to relate the joy of colour to the art of travel. As a writer, colour is a powerful tool. As a traveller, colour is a loyal friend. Each week I’ll scoop a new colour out of the colour wheel, and scrape it onto your screen with a few chosen words on what that particular colour relates to, with regards my past three years of perpetual travel.

Here’s the pilot post for the new feature, I’d love to hear your thoughts.

I grabbed this colour in the dark, stabbing my mouse into the inky abyss of my laptop and gouging out the code, #33CCFF which now causes your eyes to strain and struggle against the disobedience of punkish tones.

At first it gored me with thoughts of Twitter. Then reality clawed the lower part of my neck, and dreams of travel bled into my memory. You might be expecting me to associate this colour with the unfurling of a tropical sea, or the lonely appeal of a Tibetan lake. But, no.

This cyanic blend is in fact the colour of the footwear which adorned my feet for the first year of my travels. What’s worse is, they were Crocs. Those vulgar — yet addictively comfortable — eyesores of mass-fashion. Soft, yet firm in all the right places. Peppered with holes to allow air in, and pungent puddles to sullenly drain away.

I believe this colour represents freedom. The ability to wear what I want, when I want and — more importantly — where I want. This is the colour which hauled in the first glances of strangers, and offered the first talking point with new friends. This is the colour that I searched for in the grit and grime lurking beneath hostel beds. This is the colour of carelessness and venture.

So, how was that? A block of drivelling blah blah blah, or a fresh approach that you’d like to see more of over the coming months? Try and judge the concept, not just the content.

I like this idea! I think color and travel go hand-in-hand. I’ve found certain cities to remind me of certain colors—–something many people might not see, but I think it’s there.

An interesting diuscssion on casino and betting agencies is definitely worth to comment. There’s no doubt that that you should publish more about this issue, it might not be a taboo matter but usually folks don’t speak about such subjects.Casino internet bets it really is the most professional and safe means to place your bets in these days. The deposit bonuses and special offers are actually an captivating solution for online poker. Most people will likely never obtain all these features in any brick and mortar casino.

We echo each other, Adam. I relate things to colour, without wanting to sound la-la about it; colour represents energy, and this is why we talk about the energy of a city, or place, which is in turn — you guessed it — a colour. Thanks for the feedback.

I think there is somewhere on the web you can go to see what all the colors mean.

Thanks Matt, it’s a sign of the times that we turn to the web for everything from groceries, to the colour interpretations! I’ll hunt it down

What an original idea! I guess I never thought of color saying so much about travel, but reading about your shoe color made me reconsider. I love how you equate your shoe’s loud color to freedom, first impressions, and discovery. Travel begins with your shoes and that movement. Now that I think of it, there are countless colors tied to my travels. Oh and I can’t believe you wore Crocs! Those started in my home state of Colorado, yet I never owned a pair.

Off the record: Crocs are the best shoes a traveller could ever pack. Granted, they look like a colouring crayon mated with a hole punch, but I was converted the moment I put them on.

Now I don’t wear them, I loathe them. In that way, I think Croc’s are inbuilt with some kind of magic spell.

I’m wearing crocs right now, and loving every minute. But, I am at work so I don’t have to worry about how they look under my desk.

They’re awesome travel shoes, Bob. I spent many an evening defending their honour, but now I don’t have any I’m hesitant to buy another pair. Perhaps I had my Croc-Goggles on too long?
