Indeed, the following has zilch to do with travelling around South India, nor does it have a jot to do with the probably illegal, perhaps slightly mythical sport of gecko cage-fighting that possibly takes place in the Birmingham underworld.
It has to do with me. And my rights as the author to this travel writing blog.
Dear Reader,As a result of no event in particular, I, the original author of www.TrailOfAnts.com has taken the empowering step to place its entire contents, where applicable, under copyright.
As I am far too uneducated to provide you with the proper spiel, I am informing you on a personal level that I hope you will appreciate.
The entire body of works on this site is the result of two and a half years of passion. I have sacrificed countless beers, and other vices, to bring you the stories and associated pages on this, my website. It has recently come to my attention that to not take this step now, would be a severe oversight.
Up until a few moments ago, the entire contents of this site was available for reproduction under a Creative Commons license meaning anyone could reproduce anything with very few restrictions, ergo very few rights reserved.
I hope you understand the reasons for the above, and I welcome your thoughts and feelings either via the comment thread below, or this contact form.
Lastly, let me make clear that I am in no way making the content of TrailOfAnts.com unavailable, I am merely controlling the distribution of my work. If you are interested in reproducing any body of work from this site, then please contact me directly via the contact form.
In anticipation of the person who points out that I have recently started to participate in the Lonely Planet Blogsherpa programme, this is currently under review.

Thanks Darcy – I’m slowly starting to agree. Since I changed this blog to 3 columns (from 2) this is the only ‘wide’ header I’ve currently got. The illustrations are from an in-flight safety card, but I think they’re lost in some poor design.
My most popular headers have been based on my photography so I think I’ll relook at that angle. Thanks for your input.

I’ll be curious as to what you find out about the Lonely Planet blogsherpa program with respect to copyright. I remember reading in the fine print that Lonely Planet claims that the author retains copyright. But, I’m not entirely sure if that’s true since any participant in the Blogsherpa program allows Lonely Planet to copy all posts tagged as such. At minimum, I would think that it would weaken your copyright.
By opting into Blogsherpa you basically give LP carte blanche to republish your content on their website free of charge.
In return you can use a tiny amount of their content (with the right accreditation) from the destination section. It’s basically mutual, but as LP will be sourcing from hundreds of blogs they become more powerful, and self-sufficient for free. Although I’m a little suspect as to whether they have the man power to police or make the best of their own programme.
They’ve also recently hinted that they’ll be making it mandatory that you become part of the single most annoying thing ever to be integrated into any similar scheme – that you have to subscribe to a mailing list. This mailing list is swamped with time wasters, so for any travel blogger stuck in down town Calcutta trying to fight his way over a dial up connection they’ll be battling these useless emails.
The touted incentive is that you earn revenue from Google AdSense, but to date I have earned a dismal 67p (US$1) from well over 100 posts (I backdated). The only reason I’ve stuck with it is that it does give me access to a slice of their readership, and it is bringing in readers in small droves but the more LP integrate Big Brother tactics, the more I’ll be put off.
